In memorian – Elinor Ostrom

Elinor Ostrom faleceu dia 12 de junho, vítima do câncer. A única mulher a ganhar um Nobel de Economia, que diga-se, não era economista, deixou ao mundo reflexões vanguardistas, especialmente sobre a utilização dos recursos ambientais de uso comum e sua interface com a “tragedy of the commons“, amplamente ventilada para a língua portuguesa no livro de autoria do professor da Universidade de Lisboa Fernando Araújo, denominada “A Tragédia dos Baldios e dos Anti-Baldios – O Problema Económico do Nível Óptimo de Apropriação”.

Nossa Associação já postou notícias sobre Elinor Ostrom (aqui) . A entrevista concedida à Globo News está aqui. E a nota do seu falecimento no Financial Times está aqui. Sua herança é um bem público que, em tempos de Rio + 20, sequer foi mencionada. Ninguém pode se intitular “ambientalista” sem estudar atentamente os escritos de Elinor Ostrom.

The Seventh Annual Conference on Empirical Legal Studies (CELS 2012), sponsored by the Society for Empirical Legal Studies, will be held in Palo Alto at Stanford Law School on Friday, November 9, and Saturday, November 10, 2012. Paper submission deadline: Sunday, July 8, 2012, midnight (PST).

Conference History

The annual Conferences on Empirical Legal Studies (CELS) were launched in 2006, in response to the growing level of empirical scholarship in law schools and elsewhere. It has thus far been held at University of Texas (2006), NYU (2007), Cornell (2008), USC (2009), Yale (2010), and Northwestern (2011), and is scheduled for Stanford (2012), Penn (2013), and UC Berkeley (2014), in each case with generous support from the host school.
